Touted as the first of its kind in India, this app will also be launched for iPhone next week, followed by a Blackberry version in a month. Not only can you book the closest cab registered with Olacab, but the app also allows you to track its movement on a map, along with details such as booking confirmation, name of the cab driver, vehicle number, distance, and time taken to reach the user's location.
Registered users can also maintain a credit balance with Olacabs and use the service through the app as and when needed, without having to pay for the trip. Tegra 3-based $200 Acer Iconia A110 tablet unveiled at Computex 2012

Tegra 3-based $200 Acer Iconia A110 tablet unveiled at Computex 2012
Windows 8 powered devices may be the highlight of Computex 2012 but there was one underdog unveiled at the event that caught everyone’s eye.
Christened the Acer Iconia A110, the Android 4.0 ICS-based  tablet boasts of some impressive specifications under the hood. The A110 has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024x600, boasts of an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor under the hood, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and HDMI out. The device also has a front facing camera but no rear facing snapper.
The best feature of the Acer Iconia A110 is that it is priced at $200, which directly translated is roughly Rs. 11,000.
We have seen some pretty impressive tablets launch in India in the sub Rs. 15,000 category, but the Acer Iconia A110 blows them all out of the water, on grounds of sheer specifications. The device could truly become a game changer and may just become the go-to-device for people looking for an entry-level tablet with good specifications. This however will be a reality only if the device is a good performer in real world conditions.
The Verge had some hands-on time with the device at Computex 2012 and ran a few benchmarks on them. The device performed better than the currently available Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 but was out performed by the Asus Transformer Prime and the HTC One X. The A110 may not be the slimmest budget tablet in the market but its form factor is acceptable nonetheless.
“Our strategy on Android is simply to enable quad-core tablets running Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be developed and brought out to market at the $199 price point, and the way we do that is a platform we’ve developed called Kai.” Said Mr. Csonger at a May Acer shareholder’s meeting.
He continues to say, “So this uses a lot of the secret sauce that’s inside Tegra 3 to allow you to develop a tablet at a much lower cost, by using a lot of innovation that we’ve developed to reduce the power that’s used by the display and use lower cost components within the tablet.”

Can Windows 8 tablets help Acer catch up to the iPad ?

Struggling PC maker Acer unveiled new two Windows 8 tablets that come with attachable keyboards, reports PC World.
The Taiwanese PC maker launched the products at a press conference one before the Computex show is set to begin in Taipei. The Computex is the second largest electronics show in the world.
The two tablets launched are Iconia W510 and the Iconia W700. Both run on Windows 8 OS. The Iconia W510 has a 10.1-inch touchscreen, plus detachable keyboard dock can be connected to the tablet for optimal typing. A big plus is that it extends the tablet’s battery life up to 18 hours and can be used as a stand. The W510 tablet thus has a tri-mode feature, wherein users can touch, type and view on the tab.
Reuters
Engadget reports that the Iconica W700, has relatively massive 11.6-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) display with touch support for up to 10 fingers, and ships with a cradle that positions the device at 70 degrees for landscape viewing or 20 degrees for touch use. It offers more than 8 hours of battery life and also includes a trio of USB 3.0 ports, along with Dolby Home Theater for enhanced audio.
Both tablets, however, are built with Intel microprocessors. The price for the tablets has not been revealed.
World PC sales have stalled since Apple’s 2010 launch of the slickly designed iPad made personal computing and the Internet even more portable for consumers.
The onslaught of the iPad and a host of imitators has cut deeply into the revenues of Acer which has slipped to the world’s fourth largest PC vendor from No 2 amid stalled sales.
