iPhone 5 Now Available In India Through Tradus.com, Price Starts From Rs 60,000

Can't wait for Apple to officially launch the iPhone 5 in India? Well, if you have 60 grand in your pocket, you can now order the latest iPhone from Tradus.com. Keep in mind though that delivery will take close to 15 days. Since the device seems to be sourced from an international distributor, you won't get the company warranty either. However, the seller has offered a three-month warranty on his own accord. If the 16 GB version is not enough, you can opt for the 32 GB version for Rs 74,000, or a 64 GB iPhone 5 for a whopping 87 grand.



This might sound expensive, but is still a better deal than what sellers on OLX.in and eBay.in have quoted. Not to mention the ridiculous prices being thrown around in the grey market. Besides, it's unlikely that Apple will sell it for much less once it's officially launched in India.

Micromax Unveils Funbook Infinity With 7" Screen And Android 4.0 For Rs 6700

Micromax is one brand that seems to be ruling the roost as far as the budget market is concerned. After launching several Android-based smartphones, the company has brought the spotlight back on its budget tablets. The latest addition to its slate lineup is the Funbook Infinity (P275), which features a 1.2 GHz processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The tablet comes preloaded with educational content sourced from McGraw Hill, Everonn, Pearson, and Vriti, which can be purchased separately. Bundled entertainment apps from BigFlix, Zenga, Hungama, and IndiaGames have been included, along with two full-length Bollywood movies — Rowdy Rathore and Tees Maar Khan. While the ample battery will doubtless last through any one of these flicks, it's highly unlikely that your patience will.
Similar to earlier products in the series, the Funbook Infinity also comes with an offer to obtain a Tata Photon+ 3G dongle for Rs 500, including data usage of 1 GB per month for two months. The slate is priced at Rs 6700, and the press release mentions that it's available on Micromax's e-store — though it was nowhere to be seen as of this writing.

Android 4.0 Wishtel IRA ICON Tablet Launched With BSNL 3G SIM For Rs 10,500

Wishtel, in association with BSNL, has launched the IRA ICON tablet, which runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The IRA CON is powered by a 1.2 GHz CPU with 1 GB of RAM. It has a 7" capacitive multitouch screen with pixel dimensions of 800x480. The device ships with 4 GB of internal storage and 32 GB microSD slot. The 3G SIM slot allows it to be used for voice as well as VoIP and video calls from anywhere. Wishtel claims the 4000 mAh battery supports 3 to 4 hours of usage. The IRA CON sports dimensions of 7.7" (l) x 4.7" (w) x 0.3" (7 mm) (d), and tips the scales at 400 grammes. Here are the detailed specifications:

USB OTG (On-The-Go) functionality features on the device; this allows you to connect various peripherals, including storage drives and input devices. On the software front, the tablet supports the Google Play store, which gives you access to a host of free and paid applications and games. It comes preloaded with educational apps such as Wish Learning and Wish News, and entertainment apps such as Wish Studio and Wish TV.
The appeal of the Wishtel IRA ICON is diminished somewhat by its price tag of Rs 10,500, which is as high as a 10" tablet.

Android 4.0 Based UbiSlate Tablet Range With 7" Screens Launched By Datawind; Starts At Rs 3000

 

The UbiSlate tablet (an enhanced version of the Aakash) is back in the news, and this time it has multiple models to show off. A press release from the company has stated that Datawind has launched four different variations with resistive or capacitive screens and optional GSM 2G SIM with phone functionality. Tablets with an R in the model number have a resistive screen, while the capacitive screen is denoted by a C. Wi-Fi-only versions have an i, while those with a SIM have a + at the end. Thus, the UbiSlate 7Ri has a resistive screen and Wi-Fi, while the 7C+ has a capacitive screen, Wi-Fi, and SIM slot. All four tablets share common features such as Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), a 7" screen, front 0.3 mp camera, and 4 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a 32 GB microSD slot. HD video playback has been mentioned as a possibility and the 1 GHz CPU can certainly handle this task, although none of them have an HDMI-Out port to take the action to a bigger screen. The release document states that the SIM-enabled tablets can be used to make calls, in addition to accessing the internet via GPRS for Rs 100 per month. Non-SIM slates can make use of external USB dongles for web connectivity. Datawind boasts of its own UbiSurfer browser that claims to compress data up to 30x, resulting in faster surfing and reduced data usage. The tablets are priced from Rs 3000 to Rs 4500 depending on the features, and although pricing for individual models has not been mentioned, it's obvious that the UbiSlate 7Ri will be the cheapest, with the 7C+ being the most expensive of the lot.

The tablet maker has been mired in controversy for some time now, with shipments having been greatly delayed despite pre-order payments made months in advance. Now that the tablets are out, and with CEO Suneet Singh Tuli having declared that "deliveries have started", let's hope that the wait for India's cheapest tablet is finally over. APPLE IPHONE 5 HOT OR NOT

So the iPhone 5 is finally out and even though Apple claims it’s the biggest thing to happen to the iPhone since the iPhone, it has left folks a little underwhelmed. We’ve come to expect a knockout punch, and that simply wasn’t there. It is more evolutionary, than revolutionary.

4G LTE: As speculated, the iPhone 5 will come with 4G LTE for high speed Internet. The Long Term Evolution is a 4G wireless communications standard that’s designed to provide up to 10 times the speeds of 3G networks for mobile devices that include smartphones, tablets, etc.
The iPhone 5 also has dual-band 3.5G HDPA+ which means those who don’t have a carrier with 4G can still access high-speed Internet. Just that it won’t be 4G.

Design and Body: So as predicted, the iPhone 5 has a new glass and aluminum two-tone body. Also the device is only 7.6mm unlike the iPhone 4s, which was 9.3 mm and is bulkier. The iPhone 5 also has a bigger screen, 4 inches unlike the previous 3.5 inch version. With the iPhone 5, we’re seeing a bigger screen and a thinner body.
Also, the iPhone 5 is compatible with the Nano-SIM. Apple has abandoned the regular SIM card for this one.

Screen resolution: Apple has upped the screen resolution to 1136×640 pixel which comes to around 326 ppi. The iPhone 4S had 960×640 pixel resolution on a 3.5 inch screen.  A bigger screen means the iPhone is now in the league of the Samsung Galaxy S III although that has a 4.8 inch screen.

Faster Processor: As predicted, the quad-core A6 chip is here. According to Engadget, Tim Cook claimed,

the chip is to be 22 percent smaller than the A5 and hence more energy-efficient, while at the same time — he says — doubling all-round CPU and graphics capabilities. By way of practical benefits, the Apple CEO promises the Pages app  (this is Apple’s word processor for mobile devices) will load up 2.1x faster than before, while Keynote attachments will hit the screen 1.7x faster.

The clock speed for the chip has not been revealed. Also everyone is still wondering whether Samsung still made these. Let’s hope the A6 can compete with Galaxy S III and HTC One X and other quad-core devices.

Camera: This is one area where the pixel resolution is still the same. Apple hasn’t given users a 12 megapixel version. The current version is still 8 megapixel, although Apple claims that they’ve ‘improved’ the shutter speed. Apple has also added a sapphire crystal lens cover for ‘clearer pictures’.

Also there’s a built-in panorama mode that will stitch shots together for one 28-megapixel photo. The rear camera doesn’t seem to offer anything drastically new.

The Face Time camera or the front camera is now 1.2 megapixel from a previous VGA resolution and has 720 pixel HD video. Good upgrade for video calling.

Battery: Apple has increased the battery life for this model. The browsing time on LTE and 3G is up to 8 hours and upto 10 for Wi-Fi. It also has a standby time of 225 hours. This is a little higher than the iPhone 4S, which clocks 6 hours browsing time on 3G and 9 on Wi-Fi and has a standby time of up to 200 hours.

Connector, Headphones: As expected the accessories have undergone a drastic change. The dock connector is now called Lightning, and is an eight-pin plug. The earphones have also undergone a design overhaul. They’re called Apple EarPods now and come with a better mike and remote. The design according to Apple is unlike  traditional, circular earbuds, the design of the new Apple EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear and therefore more comfortable.

What it didn’t have: Near Field Communications or NFC which rivals  S III and HTC One X have.

The iPhone 5 will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK on Friday, 21 September, and customers can pre-order their iPhone 5 beginning Friday, 14 September. The basic 16GB version starts at $199 with the data plan in the US. No word on when it will come to India.

Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the next-generation iPhone 5 at a keynote address in San Francisco, marking the release of undoubtedly the most eagerly awaited smartphone of the year. As expected, it has a larger 4" screen, yet at 7.6 mm is 18% thinner than its predecessor.

The newly announced handset is powered by an A6 chipset, which is said to be twice as fast as the iPhone 4S's A5 SoC. Its 4" Retina display has pixel dimensions of 1136x640 (pixel density 326 ppi). Here's the list of specs confirmed by Apple:
